A thin upper lip is easily fixed with our Botox Lip Flip. When Botox is injected into your cupid’s bow, the perioral muscles relax. No longer restricted by the downward pull of the orbicularis oris muscle, the upper lip turns outward slightly. The lip border moves upward, so more of your lip’s surface area is visible. This effect has been dubbed the “lip flip”. A Lip Flip is also an ideal way to fix a gummy smile. Previously, fixing a gummy smile meant undergoing dental procedures that are costly and uncomfortable. If you have excess gums, Botox is a painless alternative. Botox fixes a gummy smile by relaxing a strong upper lip muscle. With your upper lip relaxed, large gums are less visible.

Unlike lip fillers, Botox takes time to start working. The main ingredient needs time to weaken the targeted facial muscle. Your Lip Flip will start to work just a few days after your treatment. Most of our Vancouver Lip Flip patients notice the effects starting just three to four days later. However, it can take up to two weeks to see the final results. Botox continues to work for up to four months. You may return for a touch-up treatment to maintain the results once the effects start to wear off.

Your cosmetic goals will be discussed, and an individualized treatment plan will be created just for you. We may take pre-treatment photographs with your consent so others can see your incredible Lip Flip before and after results.

Our experienced injectors will examine your lips to determine how many units of Botox are needed. Many patients choose to have a Lip Flip to enhance the effects of lip fillers. These injections can be performed during the same appointment. Your Botox treatment will take less than a half-hour in total. Typically, only a few ccs of Botox are necessary. The procedure itself is nearly painless. All that you will feel is the quick pinch of a fine needle. We may apply a topical numbing cream first. Injections are placed above the cupid’s bow. Upon leaving the appointment, you may resume most normal daily activities.
The active ingredient in Botox is botulinum toxin type A. It is derived from a bacteria known as Clostridium botulinum in a lab setting. While injecting a “toxin” into your skin may sound unusual, you can rest assured that Botox is considered a low-risk treatment. After undergoing clinical trials to prove its safety, the FDA approved Botox in 2002. While injecting a small amount of Botox is thought to be safe, all minimally invasive procedures come with a degree of risk. All risks are disclosed prior to undergoing your treatment. Serious adverse reactions to Botox are rare.
